Star Wars is headed to Disney’s first official streaming service, Disney+. Fans are unsurprisingly excited about it, and have probably been filled with ideas of what stories the streaming service should tell. Well, since we love a good speculation session just as much as the next Star Wars fan, we thought we’d list out our hopes for the Star Wars TV series that might arrive. However, to keep us grounded in reality (but still excited), we’ve rounded up the ones that are already confirmed, too. Without further ado, here are 3 Confirmed Star Wars TV Shows for Disney+ (And 7 We Want).
Confirmed: The Clone Wars
Fans were overjoyed to hear that cult favorite Star Wars series The Clone Wars was headed back to their computer screens. The animated Star Wars series, set between the second and third episodes of the saga, never got a satisfactory ending from the time it was on television. But with LucasFilm teaming with the original group that brought us Clone Wars in the first place, fans can expect the end that they’ve always craved. That is, after a couple more seasons of story. We certainly have more to find out about Asoka.
Confirmed: The Mandalorian
We’ll probably never get that Boba Fett film. However, Jon Favreau and LucasFilm are offering something just as good, if not potentially better on the Disney+ streaming service. The Mandalorian will follow several bounty hunting adventures within the Star Wars universe, presumably from the time in between the prequels and the original trilogy. Details are still fuzzy on exactly what the storyline and characters will turn out to be, but that doesn’t mean we’re any less excited. Especially after we got some of those early set photos.
Confirmed: Cassian Andor
Cassian Andor was one of the best parts of the first Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One. However, just like every character in that film, Cassian’s adventures ended with its climax. At least, that’s what we thought. Now we know that Cassian (and potentially more Rogue One characters) is heading to Disney+ to star in his own streaming series.
We assume that the series will follow the outlaw life Cassian lead before joining the Rebellion, perhaps even providing us with a K-2SO origin. Whatever the shape the series takes, we’re just happy that we’ll be getting more adventures of Cassian Andor before his tragic death. Now, if only we could get every character in Rogue One their own series…
Want: Obi-Wan Kenobi
Ah, the fabled Obi-Wan spin-off. Star Wars fans for generations have pined after the story, and recently there have been reasons to hope we’d actually get it. Like when Disney announced it would start filming this year. However, all of those rumors turned out to be false, or at least changed after the (comparatively) low performance of Solo. Still, recent rumors indicate that Obi-Wan might be heading to Disney+ in the near future. The only question is; should we get our hopes up? Or should we expect our dreams of an Obi-Wan spinoff to end up like Obi-Wan himself, cast away only to be forgotten and then die too soon? We certainly hope not.
Even still, it would be better than doing it and recasting Ewan MacGregor.
Want: Knights Of Ren
What’s the deal with the Knights of Ren? The Ben Solo-lead rebel Jedi group fascinated us from the moment we glimpse them in The Force Awakens, but we got no more clues to their identity in The Last Jedi. So, we think a series on Disney+ would be perfect for these mysterious masked figures. A series is, after all, a better way to cover a large group of characters, as it would give each individual more screen time. Plus, the series could set up a few Adam Driver guest appearances, and that is simply too exciting of an idea to pass up.
Want: Amilyn Holdo
Speaking of The Last Jedi, one Film is not enough for one of its best characters. Admiral Amilyn Holdo, played by the incomparable Laura Dern, deserves way more story time in the Star Wars universe. Think about it, as soon as her name is mentioned, several of the main characters stand at attention, including one Poe Dameron. But why? What secret missions has she taken on, how many lives has she saved? What threat was she to the First Order?
A Disney+ show could answer all of these questions, and give even more life to a character that clearly deserves it. She was, after all, the very first Star Wars character to think of using warp drive as a weapon. That could’ve saved a lot of Red Squadron lives, just saying.
Want: Underworld
Even longer than an Obi-Wan spinoff has been rumored, tales of a crime thriller set in the Star Wars galaxy have been whispered among fans. That series, should it have ever gotten off the ground, was supposed to be called Underworld. Underworld would have dealt with the “scum and villainy” that the Star Wars universe boasts. Presumably featuring characters like Lando Calrissian and Boba Fett as some of its main cast. We may get some planned Underworld stories in The Mandalorian, but don’t think that will satisfy fans completely. We’ll still pray for what’s essentially a Star Wars Breaking Bad until the Disney gods give us what we ask.
Want: Rogue Squadron
Who is the real hero of the original trilogy? It’s up for plenty of debate, of course, but for many, the hero of the original Star Wars trilogy is Wedge Antilles. And it’s high time he and his band of courageous fighter pilots get their own series. In all seriousness, a TV series focused on the foot-soldiers of the Rebellion could have a fun, WWII like excitement to it. Picture Band of Brothers but with X-Wing fighters. And, of course, Porkins.
We’d never, ever forget about Porkins.
Want: Darth Bane
As any fans of Star Wars know, the Jedi aren’t half as interesting as the Sith. That’s why we think it would be incredible to tell the origins of the Sith as we knew them from the prequels. And all that starts with one Jedi outcast, a character called Darth Bane.
A Bane series would be a great way to expand the Star Wars canon back into the time before the prequels. It could also blur the lines between good and evil in the Star Wars universe. Plus, it could bring back some of the Expanded Universe fans who dropped off after Disney took over the franchise. If you want proof of that, just look at how well the new Thrawn stories are doing.
Want: Knights Of The Old Republic
Many fans think that Knights of the Old Republic is the best Star Wars ever. Better than the sequels, better than the original trilogy, better than the EU. And we can understand why. KotOR features fantastic characters, amazing battles, and some of the best lore-building that’s ever been done in a franchise. Bringing at KotOR series to Disney+ wouldn’t just bring back old memories for long-time Star Wars fans. It would open new doors to a bigger, and even more exciting galaxy of possibilities.
